Nuclear Physics finds many different applications in diverse fields of physics.
Nuclear Physics has the most famous application in the production of electricity in nuclear power plants. The phenomena used is Nuclear Fission. A small, but considerable part of the energy requirements of the world is provided by application of nuclear fission to the production of electricity. However, since the process of nuclear fission produces radioactive waste, this application also poses a threat for the environment.
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR Spectroscopy)
The study of structure of molecules can be carried out by a technique called Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy which uses the phenomena of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and derives its name from it. NMR uses the magnetic property of the nucleus. The interaction of the nucleus with electromagnetic field produces a spectrum which is used to determine the structure of the molecule.
